THE accountancy sector is set to be a major recruiter of graduates in the coming months.

Close to 750 positions are open, with PwC planning to take on close to 300 people — 250 graduates for all areas of its business.

PwC, which claims to be Ireland’s largest professional services, today launches its 2011 Graduate Recruitment Programme.

The recruitment drive by PwC comes just weeks after rival Deloitte said it plans to take on 215 graduates at its offices in Cork, Limerick and Dublin. And tomorrow and Wednesday, KPMG will launch its graduate recruitment programme in UCD and DCU with plans to take on 290 graduates for 2012.

Senior partner at PwC, Ronan Murphy, said they will take on over 250 graduates for all areas of the business. In addition, PwC is also seeking to recruit up to 40 professionally-qualified individuals to fill strategic roles across the firm.

"This level of recruitment is a reflection of client needs and the demand for our services. We are continuing to work with our clients, adding value to their businesses and, at the same time, ensuring our people have rewarding and successful careers."

HR Partner at PwC, Carmel O’Connor, said the graduates will join the firm across its assurance, tax, advisory and actuarial practices including sectors such as asset management, banking and &insurance, technology and infocomms, manufacturing, pharma, retail and the public sector.

She said the professionally qualified roles exist in the areas of audit, risk assurance, consulting, restructuring/ insolvency, corporate finance and transaction services.

The majority of the positions are in PwC’s Dublin office but positions are also available in Cork, Limerick, Galway, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford.

"We are looking for bright, energetic and talented graduates who want to get the best training there is, work with an unrivalled client base and with people who are the best in the business. Their experience with PwC will stay with them for the rest of their careers," added Ms O’Connor

She said the graduates will be immersed from day one in a structured training programme which seeks to give them the skills they need to "hit the ground running" and gain an understanding of the PwC culture and environment.
